Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils provide plants with protection against predators and disease and play a role in plant pollination. Essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile aromatic compounds. Although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils. Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue. Try this at home: Squeeze the peel of a ripe orange. The fragrant residue on your hand is full of essential oils. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Modern scientific study and trends toward more holistic approaches to wellness are driving a revival and new discovery of essential oil health applications. dōTERRA CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils represent the safest, purest, and most beneficial essential oils available today. They are gently and skillfully distilled from plants that have been patiently harvested at the perfect moment by experienced growers from around the world for ideal extract composition and efficacy. Experienced essential oil users will immediately recognize the superior quality standard for naturally safe, purely effective therapeutic-grade dōTERRA essential oils. |
TEACHERS CLASSROOM MAKEOVER
Essential Oils in the Classroom
If you don't know, Misty is a Certified Physical Education Teacher. Her instructors, in the beginning, told her there are many rewards of teaching. She was also prepared for some of the challenges like long hours and classroom management. Some issues that were never covered are how wormy/squirmy, germy, and stinky students can be--no matter what grade level.
As a Wellness Advocate, she only wishes she had known about essential oils during my classroom days. She would have had a diffuser going during each class period! This blog is mainly about how her family and she use doTERRA in their home. However, Misty is proud to announce that a few of our Public Schools & Daycare facilities (pilot school research) are allowing her to research our local kids behavior and moods during different times of the day. She is also introducing them to hospitals and nursing homes
Here are some of the top suggestions from her experience and from other doTERRA users who are also teachers:
Serenity Blend: Diffuse to achieve a calm environment.
Peppermint: Diffuse during testing to help students focus and during the post-lunch sleepy time to energize lethargic students (and teacher).
Wild Orange: Uplifting, energizing and strongly anti-viral.
Elevation: Elevation is called the "joyful blend". I have mentioned on the blog before, I used it during labor and it is still one of my favorite blends to diffuse or wear.
OnGuard Protective Blend: Diffuse at the start of each day to sanitize the room. Use OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate during cold and flu season on desks, door knobs and light switches. (OnGuard kills viruses and bacteria without harmful chemicals).
Some frequently asked questions about integrating essential oils into the classroom are:

Some frequently asked questions about integrating essential oils into the classroom are:
- Do we have to worry about allergic reactions? No, Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) Essential Oils are extracted from the plant and do not contain allergens. Diffusing Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint and Breathe Essential Oils will provide dramatic relief for those with allergies and asthma.
- Which diffuser is the best choice for my classroom? doTERRA sells different diffusers. Others are available in health food stores or online but warning, they will not work very well with our oils and will not last very long. The oil can eat through other brands. My favorite for classrooms are doTERRA the Lotus and Aroma Ace The Lotus is the model I use in my home daily. It works well in areas up to about 1000 sq. ft, using ultrasonic technology to create a mist from a few drops of essential oil and water. The Aroma Ace diffuses oil without water for very large areas. If your classroom has high ceilings, you may have to invest in the Aroma Ace to get the most out of your oils. If you have a very small classroom you may be able to get away with the smaller model.
- Perfumes and fragrances are banned in our school district--how do I get around this? Okay, you little rebels, there's no sneaky way to diffuse CPTG Essential Oils. Present the scientific evidence (like the Vanderbilt University Study and some of the studies onhttp://www.aromaticscience.com) to your principal or administrator, nurse and get permission. In one school the principal saw the dramatic improvements in behavior, attendance and motivation and purchased a Lotus Diffuser for each classroom! Also if think you are allergic to one of our oil smells, in reality you're NOT. You are usually allergic to pollen or synthetic additives in other products. Our oils are ALL Natural and are a CPTG Essential Oil.
- Will my students like doTERRA? People of all ages love doTERRA, but I'm always blown away by how much small children are drawn to the oils, especially when they are being diffused by the Lotus. Many teachers even use them as an incentive or reward in the classroom.
